Il Collegio di Spagna e Bologna

mostra personale di Fernando Viscasillas

My great-grandfather, Eduardo Viscasillas Blanque (1848–1938), a Spanish diplomat and composer (more than 100 musical works), was Rector of the Royal College of Spain, an institution founded in 1364 by Cardinal Gil de Albornoz in Bologna. This exhibition is a special tribute to his artistic career and the coincidence of my own path as an artist, almost as if I were following in his footsteps more than 100 years later in the same places where he composed his works, especially in Bologna, where I held my first exhibition in 2003. This work at the Royal College of Spain, is very special to me, inspired by this magnificent city, which has been so closely linked throughout its history to this distinguished and prestigious academic institution, which is almost seven hundred years old. Large-format paintings depict towers, domes and arcades that run through the headquarters of the oldest university in Europe. And in the depths of my memories of old photographs of my family, I stroll through this revisited Bologna, interpreting the steps taken between the columns, gardens, halls and cloisters of this palace inhabited by my great-grandfather, the Rector
